-
Are your products plant-based, vegetarian, vegan friendly?
Yes, yes and yes - they are! Animal lovers who believe their food shouldn’t scream can confirm they do not contain any animal-derived ingredients.
-
Are WhatIF Foods products gluten-free?
While our BamNut Milk is gluten-free, we’ve gotta tell you that our noods contain wheat and are therefore not gluten-free.
-
Are your products keto-friendly?
The straight up answer is: our foods aren’t really keto-friendly. WhatIF believe the optimal diet is diverse and balanced in macro-nutrients with decent amounts of complex carbs, fats, and proteins. Best to ask an accredited practitioner if you have any underlying medical conditions and have been prescribed a keto diet.
-
Are you certified organic?
Cards on the table, we don’t have organic certification at this stage. BUT we are working real hard to be Regeneratively Certified instead! That said, our BamNuts are grown using organic principles and all WhatIF Foods products do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or ingredients produced from GMOs.
-
Are you certified Non-GMO?
Yep, all our BamNut Milk products are currently Non-GMO project verified. For our noodles, all of the ingredients in our noods are mindfully sourced, but they are not Non-GMO project verified yet.
-
Are WhatIF products Halal certified?
More good news. All our BamNut Milk products are Halal certified by JAKIM and we're working like crazy to get our Noods certified too! Rest assured, all our products are made in factories that are free of meat and alcohol.
-
Do any of the WhatIF Foods products contain palm oil?
Nope! We defo do not use any palm oil in any of our products. Period. What impact does this have? Well, check out some important facts at WhatIF Way page.
-
Any allergens that need to be flagged?
Our main ingredient is the Bambara Groundnut, which is a legume related to peanuts, therefore if you have a peanut allergy it is probably advisable to avoid consuming BamNuts. Our products are also made in a factory that handles wheat, soy, and tree nuts.
Make sure you review the allergen section of each product, online or in person, before diving in.
If you have a specific allergy not included in our info, get in touch with us directly at happytohelp@whatif-foods.com and we will try our best to work it out for you.
-
Can cancer patients eat your products?
For those undergoing medical treatment, it’s important to have quality nutrient replenishment, adequate rest and to follow guidance from your care doctor.
Our noods are a good source of protein and fiber, and are only air-fried, as opposed to deep fried like other instant noodles. This keeps your tummies filled with only the good stuff.
For the best advice – whip up our nutritional information of our products here and have a good chat with your care doctor on what’s best for you.

-
How long will they keep for?
You mean, you’ve actually saved some for later? Typically, our products can be stored for up to 12 months. But check the ‘best before’ date on the packaging (see sticker on the bottom of our Nood boxes, or indicated on the top of the milk pack).

How are you different from other plant-based food companies?
Our mission is to use Regenerative crops to bring about a Better Better.
Better for our bodies. Better for our taste buds. Better for our soils. Better for our farmer buds. Better for our communities. It’s a never-ending quest to push beyond sustainability and reimagine how we get our food through regenerative farming practices.
Actually, if you’d like the TL,DR version, it’s this:
“We're more than just Plant-based food, we're PLANET based food!” -
How do you bring about A Better Better?
It’s actually a really long story that we’re always excited to have a conversation about, but to keep it short and sweet, it really is all about Regeneration the WhatIF Way.
For us, this means Replenishing, Reconnecting, and Restoring. They’re all interconnected, and if you’ve got five, have a read about them here.

What is California Proposition 65?
Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a California state law that requires businesses to inform their customers about exposure to chemicals that may cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm at levels that are far below those known to cause any actual harm, and well below existing, standard federal safety levels. As such, these products are not prohibited, but in the interests of transparency under the law, their presence is made available to the consumer.
-
How does Proposition 65 affect me?
As a consumer, you may encounter a wide variety of consumer products that feature a Prop 65 warning. Pursuant to California law, this warning indicates that consuming the product can expose you to one or more chemicals listed under Prop 65.
-
What types of chemicals are listed under Proposition 65?
To date, over 900 chemicals have been listed under Prop 65. You may view the full list HERE
-
Why does WhatIF Foods include a warning on its products?
At WhatIF Foods we are committed to the highest standards of food safety and quality control. We grow the Bambara bean using regenerative farming practices in the most natural way possible and work thoughtfully to source every additional ingredient in the purest form available. We never add heavy metals or toxic substances into our products, however some chemicals on the Prop 65 list occur naturally in the environment, meaning low, trace elements are commonly found in almost ALL foods. To ensure compliance with the law, our products are labelled accordingly.
-
Are WhatIF Foods products safe for me?
Absolutely. Rest assured that a Prop 65 warning does not mean that our products are in violation of any laws or regulations, we are just keeping engaged consumers fully informed. Our mission to promoting good health is expressed in everything we make, meaning you can have confidence that WhatIf Foods products are safe and delicious. Enjoy!
Ghana
-
You talk a lot about Ghana. Is that where it all began? And what's happening there right now?
In 2019, our team went to Tamale in Ghana to meet and greet with smallholder farmers from different districts and villages. It was as a part of a fact-finding mission as well as an intro to who we were. We loved it! They… weren’t so sure. They asked us “what makes you different from everyone else who comes here to promise us good things? We said… “time will tell, just wait and see.”
In 2021 and 2022, once travel began to open up after the pandemic, we returned together with The Pond Foundation. We revisited the same communities in 2019, and more, in order to build trust, to understand the needs and challenges, and to invite farmers as equal partners in our mission and ambition.
With that, we were off to the start that was beyond our expectations! Today, we have 900 growers who have signed up for our first season, and many more wanting a piece of the action in the future.
If you’re a ‘Better Believer’, you can join our email list and get updates on our community outreach programs, growing quickly in Ghana and sprouting up all over the world.
What's A BamNut?
-
What on earth is a BamNut?
Short answer, it’s a Bambara Groundnut grown in West Africa (Indonesia and Malaysia, too). But we crushed the name down to BamNut, to put a catchy ring on it. A bit of a wonder crop, this regenerative legume has been under cultivated and overlooked. Which is insane considering what’s in its nutritious locker: with 20% protein, 18% fiber, B vitamins, 7 minerals and iron, it’s loaded. It thrives with very little water and in poor soil. And, as it grows, it leaves organic matter that heals the soil.
(Even more obscure fact - in Indonesia and Malaysia it’s known as Kacang Bogor and Kacang Poi.) -
What does BamNut taste like?
Eat it as it is and you’d break your jaw. It’s harder than a really hard thing. So, it’s cooked and steamed to be softened. Taste? Some people say soy, peanut or chickpea. Some say earthy. Some say nutty. All say delish.
-
Why is it so amazing?
- It is climate-resilient, requires little resources to grow, and is able to grow in harsh conditions, such as poor soils and degraded plantation lands
- As a complete food, it loved by women and farmed as an insurance crop (feeding the families if cash crops fail);
- It is a hardy legume that restores soils by fixating nitrogen, introducing organic matter to the soil; and helping build an underground root system that is inducive to soil restoration.
-
Why does the BamNut use such little water?
Another science lesson. The BamNut has adapted to drought conditions on a cellular level. It’s simply not thirsty for rain. What’s more, this brilliant little legume has a strong, complex root system that heals the earth and improves the soil. Bringing back biodiversity and promoting a healthier eco-system. Nature, take a bow.
-
Do you use any pesticides or fertilizers to grow BamNut?
BamNut grows well on non-arable land, and is better adapted to it than the rest of its legume fam. It doesn’t need any nasty chemical fertilisers or pesticides at all to grow. Actually, it goes one better - adding nitrogen back into the ground to regenerate the land.

BamNut Milk Barista is an awesome coffee creamer that froths its way onto cappuccinos and lattes. In the hands of experts or enthusiasts, café culture is alive and kicking. -
Why fortify BamNut Milk with calcium and vitamins D2 & B12?
BamNut Milk can be made without fortifications, but we know how much you care about your nutrients. As a genuine alternative to cow milk, we’ve made sure any micronutrients aren’t going AWOL with your switch to BamNut.
-
Why are there particles in BamNut Milk?
We don't like waste. So, our BamNut Milk uses the entire nut. Over time, the bits will settle to the bottom because we don't use any gums or stabilisers. Just give the milk a good shake, do a little dance and before you know it the particles will be well mixed! If anyone asks, you can tell them the funny bits in it make it more sustainable and provide the highest fiber of all plant milks. All true.
-
Will there be separation when my BamNut Milk is stored in the refrigerator?
Yep, because our ingredients are clean without added stabilisers or preservatives. Shake it like you mean it before serving and you’ll be good to go!
-
Is BamNut Milk dairy-free, lactose-free, soy-free, gluten-free, palm oil free and vegan-friendly?
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes!
-
Is BamNut Milk safe for children or pregnant women to drink?
Yes, again. As long as they don’t have any known allergies against peanuts, BamNut is a great source of Calcium, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12! Bambara nuts are also known to be a source of iron. Win-win-win-win!
-
How long will BamNut Milk keep? Does it need to be refrigerated?
It can be kept unopened at room temperature for up to 12 months (check out the expiry date on your pack!). Once opened, it’ll need to be refrigerated and consumed within 5 days.
That shouldn’t be hard!
WhatIF Noodles

Noodle prep. What’s the drill?
We’ve two recommended ways. Neither require super culinary skills:
Stove top directions:
1. Bring 300ml of water to boil in a pot. (if we reduce to 300ml, then less water to waste on draining
2. Add noodles into the boiling water and cook for 3-4 minutes.
3. Mop up that drool while you wait.
4. Drain noodles, place in a bowl and mix in sauce, oil, and seasoning and serve hot.
(Top Tip: Keep 1-2 tablespoons of cooking water for ease of mixing.)
Microwave directions:
1. Place noodles in a microwave-safe bowl and pour enough room temperature water to cover them.
2. Place in microwave and cook for 2 minutes on High (800W).
3. Remove bowl with the help of potholders and flip the noodles. Then microwave for another 2 minutes. Let stand for 1 minute.
4. Mop up that drool while you wait.
5. Carefully drain noodles and mix in sauce, oil, and seasoning and serve hot.
(Top Tip: Keep 1-2 tablespoons of cooking water for ease of mixing.)
BUT here’s the thing. We're always on the lookout for new, creative ways of cooking our Noods. So, should you get a hack from an extra-terrestrial chef, let us know by tagging #whatifrecipes! -
What about just adding them to hot water?
It’s a no from us, at the moment. The best way to prepare them is either with a stove or microwave. We're working on it, though!
-
Is there Potassium and Sodium in your Noodles?
Fact. We do not add extra potassium into our noods. Any potassium present is naturally there in the ingredients that we use. Actually, some potassium in your diet allows the nerves to function and muscles to contract properly.
As for sodium, our noodles have at least 15% less than conventional deep-fried instant noodles. We do not add any artificial flavours or MSG, and thus some salt is needed for sauces/seasonings so you fall truly madly deeply in love with our taste.
If you prefer a lower sodium content, give the sauce/seasoning powder a miss or try out our Only Noods range!
Want to know how much better our noods are for you? Those in the know go to this link and check out the nutritional comparisons. -
Are the noodles individually packed?
The noodles in the NoodBox are wrapped separately, so that there’s no confusions of which seasonings go where. However, the noods in our individual-flavoured noodle boxes come packed together.
Packaging
-
Is the packaging recyclable?
It’s a bit of a balancing act. We use the best packaging options available for the minimal environmental impact, without risking the quality and freshness of our products, and make sure to offset (or inset) the carbon generated through the regenerative BamNut farming process.
If there’s something better out there, let us know! We dig getting Better in all aspects, packaging included.
